What are veneers?
A veneer is a thin layerof material that is attached to the front part of a tooth. They are often made of porcelain or composite resin. Porcelain veneers are stronger than composite resin veneers and generally donot change colour or stain over time while composite resin is more likely to.Theylast longer than composite resin veneers and are often done to improve aestheticsor to protect a tooth’s surface from damage.
Composite resin veneers
The composite resin that best matches the colour of your natural teeth is selected so that the veneer blends in with the rest of your teeth. After the layer of composite resin is applied to your tooth and cured with a lightit is then shaped and polished to form to your tooth. The finished veneer looks natural and smooth.
Porcelain veneers
A thin layer of the enamel from your tooth is removed to make room for the veneers. A mold of your teeth is then done which is used to fabricate your porcelain veneers. In the meantime, temporary veneers will be placed until the porcelain veneers are done being fabricated. The temporary veneers are very fragile and need to be treated with carewhile eating and cleaning your teeth as they can come loose very easily.
At your next visit, the temporary veneers are removed and the porcelain veneers are then cemented to your teeth, using composite resin cement.
Am I a good candidate for veneers?

Am I a good candidate for veneers?

- If decay is present or if the tooth requiring the veneer is in an area that has periodontal disease then these problems must be treated first
- If there is little enamel left on the tooth, the veneer will not adhere to it properly
- If too much of the tooth is missing, a crown may be a better option instead
- If you grind or clench you teeth, the veneer can chip or break
